Altar Instructions

Distribution

  • The Deacon who prayed the confession will stand guard of the Holy Body. He is the second set of eyes of the priest.
  • Another deacon will take a candle and stand with the priest or full deacon administering the blood. He has the same job as the deacon with the Body.
  • Once they enter the altar at the conclusion of communion, the deacons will help the priest wash the vessels of the altar, dry them, and put them away in their designated spot
  • After all vessels are in the big cloth they get wrapped in, two opposite corners will be tied two times, then the other two opposite corners will be tied three times.
  • Deacon will pour water in to priests hands so he can release the Angel of the Sacrifice
  • Do not wipe the water off the altar
  • Organize the altar and keep it looking tidy as our God is a God of order and this is a holy place. It must be maintained and cared for.
  • Cover the altar with its Red veil
  • Discard of the water the priest used to wash his hands into the earth outside
  • Turn off and discard of the charcoal in his designated bowl
